FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a visa to visit Egypt?
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date. Citizens of many countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the European Union, can get a 30-day single-entry tourist visa, either online before travel through the official portal visa2egypt.gov.eg, or on arrival at the airport before passport control. Visa rules and fees can change, so please check the official portal or your nearest Egyptian embassy before you travel.
Do I need to speak Arabic to visit Egypt?
No. Your guide will speak your language (English, and other languages on request), and English is widely understood in hotels, cruises and tourist areas. Learning a few words such as “shukran” (thank you) is always appreciated.
Why take a Nile cruise?
A Nile cruise is the most comfortable way to see Upper Egypt. You sleep on board while the ship sails between Luxor and Aswan, and you visit temples such as Edfu and Kom Ombo along the way, with meals and guided visits usually included. See our Nile cruises.
Can I take photos in museums and at the sites?
Photography is allowed at most sites and museums. Some tombs and special areas do not allow photos or require an extra photo ticket, and flash or tripods may be restricted. Your guide will tell you the rules at each site.
Is it safe to travel to Egypt?
Millions of travelers visit Egypt every year, and the main tourist areas are well protected. As with any destination, follow your guide’s advice, take normal care with your belongings, and check your government’s travel advice before you go.
